CONNECT

Precision from initiation
to close-out.

FACILEX® Connect is a powerful suite of tools and utilities that permit connection between FACILEX® and programs and data external to FACILEX®.

Each of the FACILEX® Connect tools has “hooks” into FACILEX®, and FACILEX® has features and capabilities that make this interconnection much simpler.

FACILEX® is derived from the Pillars of Process Safety. CONNECT is one of the most fundamental business processes that’s needed when it comes to managing risk.

Reinforce your process safety system.

FACILEX® is derived from the CCPS Pillars of Process Safety. CONNECT supports the access to critical data required by the business processes needed to manage risk.

We have answers.

A PSI Vault is an Electronic Document Management (EDM) repository for Process Safety Information. In the context of OSHA’s Process Safety Management (PSM) standard (29 CFR 1910.119), Process Safety Information (PSI) refers to the critical technical data and documentation that must be collected and maintained to ensure safe management of processes involving hazardous chemicals.

The PSI must cover three main areas:

Hazards of the Chemicals Used:

  • Physical properties, such as flashpoints, boiling points, and reactivity
  • Health hazards, such as toxicity and permissible exposure limits
  • Safe handling, storage, and disposal practices

Process Technology:

  • A block flow diagram or simplified process flow diagram
  • Process chemistry, including any potential unintended chemical reactions
  • Maximum intended inventory of chemicals
  • Safe upper and lower operating limits for parameters like pressure, temperature, and flow rates

Process Equipment:

  • Design and construction standards followed for equipment
  • Materials of construction
  • Piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Electrical classification
  • Relief system designs and venting systems
  • Safety systems like interlocks and alarms

Purpose of PSI:

This information is critical for identifying and understanding the hazards associated with the processes and for developing and implementing effective safety and operational procedures. It serves as a foundation for other elements of the PSM standard, such as Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Operating Procedures, and Training.

FACILEX® can connect to Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) applications. Usually, this involves periodic downloads from ERP to a file or intermediate database. IT groups prefer this because it’s low risk. FACILEX® discovers the data and does the proper thing. In some cases, there are transaction integrations, e.g. MOC number sent to an SAP notification.

FACILEX® can connect to an existing Electronic Document Management (EDM) platform. The integration typically involves an intermediate staging database.

FACILEX® can connect to data and document vaults such as:

  • Drawings
  • Equipment data
  • Procedures
  • Process safety information
  • Safeguards
  • Others as permitted

A DataMart is a subset of a data warehouse that is focused on a specific business area, function, or department. It is designed to provide users with easy access to relevant data for analysis and reporting without the complexity of dealing with the entire data warehouse.

Key Characteristics of a DataMart:

  • Scope: Limited to a specific subject area (e.g., SOPs, drawings, data books, etc.)
  • Size: Smaller and more focused compared to a data warehouse
  • Audience: Tailored to meet the needs of a specific group of users or a department
  • Independence: Can be stand-alone or part of a larger data warehouse environment

Benefits of a DataMart:

  • Targeted Insights: Provides focused, relevant data for specific business areas
  • Faster Access: Optimized for quick queries and analysis
  • Simplified Complexity: Eliminates the need to navigate a vast data warehouse
  • Cost-Effective: Cheaper to implement and maintain compared to a full-scale data warehouse
  • User-Friendly: Designed with the needs of specific users or departments in mind

FACILEX® can connect to various data visualization applications. Microsoft Power BI is the most popular. Tableau uses the same paradigms.

FACILEX® can connect to smartphones and tablets. Process Safety Management (PSM) solutions utilize a lot of data, so tablets tend to be more useful in the field.

FACILEX® can connect to AI tools to assist in Process Safety Management scenarios.  AI is not a replacement for responsible and highly qualified PSM professionals. However, by using carefully crafted questions a PSM professional may benefit from insights and recommendations offered by the AI tool.

  • My Active Tasks
  • My Overdue Tasks
  • My Active Business Objects (MOCs, Incidents, Issues, etc.)
  • All Business Objects, by FACILEX® solution
  • All Business Objects, across all FACILEX® solutions grouped by status
  • All Active Action Items across all FACILEX® solutions
  • All Active Action Items, by FACILEX® solution
  • All Active Action Items grouped by role
  • All Overdue Action Items

FACILEX® can manage two distinct hierarchical structures. The most common examples are facility structures and product structures. The structure manager can display four levels deep. The facility structure can be referenced by various objects:

  • Business objects such as MOCs
  • Action Items
  • Related Items

The facility structure in whole or in part may be  used to organize:

  • Business objects such as MOCs
  • Folders containing supporting documents
  • Action items used in the application
  • Related items
